Education
Karigar Shala is a residential educational institution located in Bhuj, Kachchh, since 2010. We offer two courses in Carpentry and Masonry & Building Finishes. The duration of the course is 18 months, divided into three semesters. These courses are jointly certified by Indubhai Parekh School of Architecture (IPSA), Rajkot, and the Karigar Shala Trust (KST), Bhuj.
Our teaching approach goes beyond vocational training; we actively encourage practical learning as a teaching method, turning it into an educational programme.
We collaborate with various institutions through practical workshops and seminars. It provides a platform for students from Karigar Shala and other educational organisations to share knowledge and perspectives. This interaction encourages respect for diverse learning styles and fosters connections across different educational models.
Learning at Karigar Shala is further enriched through short-term workshops led by practitioners and experts from diverse fields and cultures, fostering knowledge exchange and cross-disciplinary exposure. The programme emphasises construction methods rooted in traditional knowledge while applying them in modern settings, with a consistent focus on environmental responsibility.
Its strength lies in blending experiential learning with real-world projects, enabling learners to build confidently, engage with communities, and maintain building traditions in meaningful and sustainable ways.
“The function of education is to help you from childhood not to imitate anybody, but to be yourself all the time. That is true education. To understand life is to understand ourselves, and that is both the beginning and the end of education.”
J. Krishnamurti
